Philippians 2: 9-11 God raised him up to the heights of heaven and gave him a name that is above every other name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Danny's school had a Family Fun Night the other night and each family was supposed to decorate a pumpkin together and bring it to be judged. We made ours into an elephant and Danny was so excited because he won a prize for it.
And I love Andrew's bear costume; how cute that your Mom made it. And the fact that Danny was Batman made me smile, too... no surprises there! I hate Halloween, too, as you know... my boys have yet to really go trick or treating and I'm hoping to keep it that way. It's one of those unsettled things in my Mommy brain though; haven't for sure come to a definite decision on how to attack this "holiday." One change I did make years ago though was to at least hand out candy to kids instead of having my light shut off. I thought "hey, this is my chance to make a good impression witness-wise to my neighbors! When else will I get strangers ringing my bell?" (other than when Jehovah's Witnesses come a' knockin' and in that case I'm not too pleasant.) I'm also not pleasant when I see little girls dressed up like Hooker Barbie... but let's not get me started on THAT!!!
Ha...Hooker Barbie. I was just talking to Dan about that last night. I, too, procrastinated and just bought Eli's costume yesterday. I was totally dismayed at how inappropriate the costumes for little girls are. We were never allowed to be anything "scary" or "evil" as kids, and I am passing that on to my kiddos. I don't get how crazy people go. I also pretty much hate Halloween. Anyway, I am so impressed by the pumpkin!! That's so creative. It kinda makes me sick. Alas. Our pumpkins aren't even carved. And, to set the record straight, Ava is going to be a monkey, and will NEVER be Hooker Barbie. (She may have to be Ariel from The Little Mermaid. The little shell bra over the skin colored leotard is TOO cute!!!)
Yeah- I think I will not let them be anything scary or evil too. We had to go to the Halloween store to get his costume and the stuff there was CREAPY! I couldn't even look at most of it. Was it like that when we were kids and we were just oblivious or have things changed? Anyway- glad I don't have to worry about my boys being hooker barbie- at least I hope not:) If I do then Halloween will be the least of my worries:)
That's so funny!! I think those stores are so creepy, too. Ironically, there is one right by our church, and every time we pass it, Eli says "Oh, Mommy, that movie is too scary for me." They get it.
Kristin I'm still laughing at your comment:) I've never been a huge fan of halloween either, and I HATE haunted houses. I've never understood the concept - kind of goes along with horror movies for me. I'm all for the cute and friendly costumes too. There's enough evil in this world!
K, Cute pumpkin (good job Danny!) and costumes! I know I'm in the minority on this one, but I kind of enjoy Halloween... not the way people have turned it evil and scary... but I have good memories of it growing up and I really have fun experiencing the joy Ev has in picking out a sweet costume (this year one of the princesses) and walking around our town together as a family for a few bits of candy. I do totally agree, however, that people twist it and and I was watching a Fox report on TV yesterday about the totally inappropriate sexualized costumes the little girls are wearing and I'm just like HELLO where are the parents on this one.. and they said in the report it's the mother living vicariously through their daughters...how sad... but I'm on a mission to keep it as innocent as possible for my own.
P.S. K, I too laughed at your comment on the hooker barbie... too funny!!
Kristen, Just thought I would let you know that the boys costumes were very cute. My girls went as Dorothy and the lion from the Wizard of Oz and of course, Mom couldn't be left out so she went as the scarecrow. I have to tell you all that I LOVE Halloween. Halloween is one of my favorite holidays along with Christmas. The joy on their innocent faces when they receive something so simple as a piece of candy can't be beat. Just thought I would let you know how cute your boys were. Keep the updates coming because I like to check in to see how they are growing.
Tell Danny Meme and Pop Pop love the pumpkin. You are so creative! The costumes look great even if one is 28 years old! Wish the kids were close enough to tric or treat around here! Love Mom

And, it is different than when we were younger.
